Sylvester McMonkey (The Sneetches)
McBean is a businessman who seeks to make profit off of the Sneetches’ foolishness. His machine, the Star-Off machine, can tattoo stars or remove them. He gains lots of money as the Sneetches all try to outdo the other by having or not having a star. McBean is a firm believer that “you can't teach a Sneetch."
The Sneetches (The Sneetches)
The Sneetches are a group of yellow bird-like creatures who compete with each other to be the most special. Some Sneetches have a star on their belly, thus making them special. The Sneetches without a star are discriminated against and try to change their appearance.
Mother (Too many Daves)
The unnamed mother is at her wit's end with all her children named Dave. She is tired of having to address them all at once, and spends the course of the book wishing she had names them something else.
Dave's (Too many Daves)
Dave is the name of the twenty-three son's in the novel. Though they do not speak, or are not shown throughout the book, their mother complains about how she wishes she had instead named them alternatively, such as, "Stinky," "Putt-Putt", "Buffalo Bil."
