Athleticism
In the book, Kobe expresses the state of mind he was in when playing basketball. He would often learn from his previous performances and get better by overcoming his weaknesses. He would also observe other great athletes like Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson and learn from their strengths and weaknesses. Kobe always stayed true to the game and kept on learning new skills at every stage of his career. Even when he was among the greatest on the court, he was still a student of the game. He never once in his career thought that he was done learning. This is what gave him the extra boost and made him stay on top of the game for twenty years of playing.
Leadership
Kobe was always a leader on and off-court. In the book, Kobe writes he always liked to challenge his teammates. He always made his teammates uncomfortable by making them question their every move during the game. He always motivated them when they weren’t playing their best. That approach never failed him and his team. Kobe challenged each player differently based on their positions and skills on the court. He often watched his fellow teammates as they played and took note of what they should be doing right. Kobe made sure he not only made himself a better player but lifted his team with him. Kobe always discussed the game with LeBron and how they nurtured a killer mentality which facilitated in them winning the game with the right mindset.
Passion
In the book, Kobe constantly expressed his love for the game. He expressed the first time he got a basketball. The feel of the ball on his hands made him love the game even more. In the twenty years of playing, his love for the game is what fueled him to strive and get better. Kobe had an appreciation of the game that he always wanted to pass on to his fellow teammates, and young aspiring players all around the world. He understood the value that basketball had on the world, and he took that passion with him to every game he ever played.
