There would just be a normal everyday pink dog there when I woke up, with a perfectly good reason for being there. George Orr suffers from his dreams. It has been lasting for a long time and the character has almost lost any hope. He hardly distinguishes the original and changed worlds, and the fact of the shifts and people who can’t understand him make George speak about it ironically: a pink dog is a bizarre image which, however, looks quite real for George.
Argumentor
The historic function of a Senator from Oregon is to drive all the other Senators mad, and no military butter is ever put upon the state bread. Oregon turned to be defenseless again alien invasion. And the reason was the missing of defense means. In this context the author points out in ironical way that Senator of Oregon has probably been arguing about the military issue so long that it became already a usual thing.
Lawyers feel no mercy
Miss Lelache (…) thought of herself as a Black Widow. Heather Lelache works as a lawyer. This profession requires austerity and offishness. In addition, she has a dark skin. The image of Black Widow suits her best. Such thoughts mark Heather’s appearance, providing ironical effect: she said, hearing her chitinous voice, clicking her mandibles.
