Why does Eadlyn continue spending time with Erik, when there isn't an actual chance of them becoming a couple?

Eadlyn and Erik have a bond, and understand each other in a way Eadlyn feels she doesn't connect with the other Selected. Therefore, she spends time with him. They may actually become a couple, as Eadlyn isn't forced to marry at the end of the Selection, but rather is doing it of her own free will, so perhaps she changes her mind.

Why do you think Kiera Cass decided to make Eadlyn an unlikable character?

Because this is the first book in a duet about Eadlyn, it gives the author a lot of room for betterment and character-building. If Eadlyn was a perfect character from the beginning, it wouldn't have been an interesting book, as it also approaches the subject of finding yourself, and learning of who you are.

Why did America change so much in between The One and The Heir?

There are approximately eighteen years between The One and The Heir. Therefore, it is only natural that the characters have changed and grown, as that is what happens in the real world. On the other hand, America also has had to learn how to be and fit into the role of queen, which might have changed her. She has also become a mother of three, which means that her priorities probably have changed as well.
