Structure:
Before this activity, give students a copy of Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” to read for homework.
To begin this activity, explain to students that while The Haunting of Hill House is probably Jackson’s most popular novel, “The Lottery” is her most popular short story. It is the piece that shows how she is a social critic through her fiction.
