Far From Men is a 2014 film based on Camus' "The Guest". Filmed in French with English subtitles, and filmed on location in Algeria, the movie stars Viggo Mortensen as Daru, and accurately captures the essence of the short story.
Several other works by Albert Camus can be taught in conjunction with "The Guest", including Exile and the Kingdom, the short story collection in which "The Guest" appears. Although the locations of the stories vary, there is a thematic unity between all the stories in the collection, and students will be able to find other examples of the absurd, of the freedom of choice, and of ambiguity.
