Jeannette Walls is the author of several other books—Dish, which reflects on her work as a gossip columnist and was written years before The Glass Castle; Half-Broke Horses, a novelization of the life of her grandmother, the "Grandma Smith" mentioned in The Glass Castle; and The Silver Star, a novel. All of these would be interesting to read in combination with The Glass Castle.
Another option is to study the book in the context of twentieth- and twenty-first-century memoir, alongside such other books of family and social struggle as Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes, Sean Wilsey's Oh The Glory of It All, and Margo Jefferson's Negroland.
