The Fires of Heaven

The Fires of Heaven Analysis

The Fires of Heaven is a fantasy novel written by American author Robert Jordan, and was first published by Tor Books on October 15, 1993. The book is the fifth in his Wheel of Time series and was preceded by The Shadow Rising (1992).

The book follows on from the previous novel, with Elayne Trakand and her crew in search of the White Tower but simultaneously being pursued by the dreamcatcher, Moghedien. Meanwhile, Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, has firmly established control over Cairhien but is attacked by the Forsaken Rahvin, resulting in him seeking help from the Maidens of the Spear.

The series has been extremely well received, with SFX stating that it was “A fantasy phenomenon.” The book differentiates itself from others in the series with the absence of a main character, Perrin. It was followed on by Lord of Chaos (1995).
