Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis plays the rough, down on his luck cab driver Korben Dallas. Prior to his stint as a cabbie he actually served as a soldier for the Federated Army under the Special Forces holding the rank of Major. His dull, monotonous life is flipped on its head when the Fifth Element, an enigmatic super being, incarnated as a young woman, serendipitously falls into his cab. He matures throughout the film growing from a cynical, jaded cabbie into a selfless, heroic, genuinely loving character towards the end.
Milla Jovovich
Leeloo is the human incarnation of the Fifth Element, a mysterious, intergalactic super being prophesized to defeat an immensely powerful, evil entity known only as "The Great Evil". Human scientists reconstructed her from the severed forearm of the original Fifth Element and being the avatar of supernatural force of good she possesses unnatural strength, agility, stamina, intelligence, and is a fighter without equal. Despite all these characteristics however she is capable of displaying deep emotional vulnerability, expressing deep sadness when she learns of how humanity violent and how selfish humanity has been towards each other.
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman plays the avaricious, completely amoral, über-wealthy industrialist and military tech developer Mr. Zorg. Since Zorg has absolutely no regard for human life, it comes as little surprise that The Great Evil, an eldritch being of pure destruction and death, reaches out to him to recruit him to be his human agent to carry out his evil schemes.
Ian Holm
A priest from an ancient order who worshipped alien beings that landed on Earth several millennia ago. He is well versed in ancient knowledge and is capable of speaking the Leeloo’s native speech, known in-film as the Divine Language. It is Fr. Cornelius who informs Korben of the presence of The Great Evil, the four elemental stones and how to defeat The Great Evil.
Chris Tucker
Chris Tucker gives life to the ultra-flamboyant, larger-than-life media personality Ruby Rhod. Despite having faster-than-light space travel and near-miraculous medical technology it seems that radio is still the preferred choice of mass media for over fifty billion people living in the Federated Territories. Over the airwaves, Ruby Rhod is the undisputed king. He unwittingly becomes one of the saviors of the universe when he participates in the activation of the Elemental Stones.
Charlie Creed-Miles
David an acolyte of the ancient order of priesthood that Fr. Cornelius belongs to, he is being groomed to be his eventual successor. He accidentally activates one of the Elemental Stones, clueing in the rest of Korben’s crew on how to access their latent power.
Maïwenn Le Besco/Inva Mula-Tchako
Maïwenn Le Besco plays the Alien Diva/Diva Plavalaguna and Albanian Opera Singer Inva Mula-Tchako performs her solo/operatic piece. More than just a performer, she is revered in the film’s universe almost like some spiritual leader and indeed, she is shown to have a deep, almost mystic understanding of the Leelo/The Fifth Element, stating that she won’t be able to defeat The Great Evil by her might alone but that she needs Korben’s support---and love to reach her full potential. The Diva is charged by the antediluvian and inscrutable Mondoshawans with the task of safeguarding the four Elemental Stones that are key to activating the Fifth Element’s mysterious power.
