"His screams woke up everyone. Ropes were lowered but to no avail. Finally, two youths went down and pulled him out, but he died a few hours later. The next morning when people drew out their drinking water from the well, it was found to be exceedingly sweet. The night, there were prayer lamps illuminating the miracle man’s grave."
Mnato has depicted the ignorance of people through this black margin. A man poured the sacks of sugar in the neighborhood well because the police was raiding in search of robbed things. The man also fell in the well aling with the sugar and the water of the well became sweet. After falling he started screaming and the people woke up. Although he was recued but he died after few hours. The next morning when people drew water from the well, they realizes that it has become sweet. They started thinking that the man which they rescued yesterday was a miracle man and it was because of him that the water has become sweet. The ignorant people started praying at the well and they made a shrine of the man there. Manto has satirized the implausible beliefs and the false rituals of people.
"He is not dead. There is still some life in him.’ ‘I can’t go on. I am totally fagged out."
Mnato has demonstrated the massive slaughter during the partition of sub-continent through these lines. The man says that he has got tired of killing people and he wants to rest. It depicts how people were brutally murdered on large scale without any breaks. They were chopped like vegetales and murdering people was like a job from which the murderer wanted to take a break. If he would not get tired, he would keep on killing more people. The violence and deaths during the process of migration is evident from Manto's writings.
"That is what I call luck. All I was able to lay my hands on was this one lousy container. And you know what was in it? Pork, if you please."
Apart from the violence and massive slaughter, another cause of suffering was helplessness. The pork is prohibited for Muslims in their religion. While migrating to Pkaistan, the Muslisms were utterly helpless even regarding their meals. They could not find anything to eat. In these lines, the vulnerabilty and powerlessness have been demonstrated by showing that the person only got pork to eat. He could only eat something from a container and there was only pork in it. This is how the person describes his luck. He was so unlucky that it was not in his control to eat something of his choice or which is allowed by the religion.
