"Sunshine State" and Other Stories Themes

Climate Change

This whole anthology is inspired by the issue of climate change, tackling it from different angles. The story "Sunshine State" is about a response to climate change called "The Myth," which seeks to recreate the wetlands in Florida to deal with a rise in the sea level. Ultimately, this story shows how people can work together to resist climate change.

Financial investment

In "Sunshine State," the protagonist Ramses is concerned with procuring investments for "The Myth." This story shows that even an idea that could successfully resist the consequences of climate change needs financial investment, and emphasizes the importance of funding environmental projects.

The govenrment

In this story, the government is presented as rejecting the severity of the rising sea levels. For example, the people behind "The Myth" are threatened by the state, who are afraid that they will make the rising sea levels known to the public. As such, the government is presented as being dismissive of the climate change issue, as it is seemingly too much to deal with.
