Structure:
Have students read Kawabata’s Nobel Lecture, “Japan, the Beautiful, and Myself” (https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/literature/laureates/1968/kawabata-lecture.html) for homework.
Have students talk in pairs about what they notice about the speech. Instruct them to make a list of the main ideas throughout. Then have students share their thoughts with the class.
