Audre Lorde was an African American woman writer, "warrior poet," feminist and civil rights activist, and educator. She is most revered for her influence on Black feminist thought, and contributions to the second-wave feminist movement.
Audre Lorde was born on February 18, 1934 in New York City to Caribbean immigrant parents. During the Great Depression, Lorde's family, like most, struggled to stay afloat for the tumultuous economic period. Lorde began writing poetry at a young age to process the world around her.
