Simon Spier
Simon Spier is a sixteen-year-old boy. Simon is secretly gay and is very scared of anyone getting to know his secret. Therefore, he hides the fact that he is gay very carefully. Simon is trying his very best to fit in the ordinary high school life even though he feels he is everything but ordinary. He develops an online relationship with someone he only knows as Blue. In this relationship, he also uses a pseudonym, Jaques. Simon loves musical theater and usually participates in the school plays.

Blue
Blue is the person Simon sends emails with for five months. His screen-name is Bluegreen 118. He gets in contact with Simon after posting a post on Tumblr that Simon relates to. Blue is also gay and he and Simon develops a relationship. Blue has divorced parents and is a very private person. Simon tries very hard to find out who Blue is, but fails. Blue finds out who Simon is which makes their emails tense and uncomfortable. At the end of the book we get to know that Blue is actually Bram Greenfeld.
Nick Eisner
Nick Eisner is one of Simon’s best friends. They have known each other since they were only four years old, so they are very close. Nick can often start random monologues about his dreams, but also other themes. Nick is hopelessly in love with Abby who becomes his girlfriend by the end of the book.
Leah Burke
Leah Burke is also one of Simon’s very best friends. Leah is very insecure on her own looks and is very sarcastic. She has many feelings, but she always keeps them bottled up inside her. Simon thinks that Leah is in love with Nick.
