Shakespeare Behind Bars Irony

Shakespeare Behind Bars Irony

Hal

Hal understands Prospero's relationship deeply. Ironically, he knows it as it is how he felt with his daughter after his wife was gone.

Dreams

Sammie is practicing Caliban's speech which is about dreams with a couple other guys. Ironically, he speaks of dreams as they are confined by the prison walls.

485

The prison was built in 1981 and the Warden tells us that it was made for a capacity of 485 inmates. Ironically, approximately 1,100 men are imprisoned there at the time of the making of this film (2005).

Warden

Warden Chandler is head of the prison, a place where men are confined for their crimes. Ironically, he hates prisons, as he desires for each inmate to grow in order to be prepared for life on the outside.

Sammie

Sammie was sexually abused as a child by his teacher. He came home to tell his father about it, but ironically his dad told him he was a punk instead of defending his own son.
