Peter Pan (originally titled Peter and Wendy), written by J.M. Barrie was first published in 1911. It was a novelization of the play, Peter Pan or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, which was first published and performed in 1904. The character of Peter Pan was created even prior to that, in Barrie's novel The Little White Bird. He was initially conceived of as a little baby who could fly, and seemed to be part bird, part boy. The character was named after Peter Llewelyn Davies, a little boy, who was part of a family befriended by Barrie.
