Gregory Bridgerton
The protagonist of the story the only Bridgerton sibling to remain unmarried. The story begins with his rushing to stop a wedding by declaring his love and proposing to an unnamed mystery woman. Flashbacks reveal the moment that Gregory judged himself to be “wrecked” as the result of falling in love at first sight with a living blonde goddess.
Hermione Watson
A few things are known for sure about Hermione: the neck of her curve is absolute perfection. And her hair is very blonde. And every man who sees her falls instantly in love. And every man who pursues must ultimately face rejection. And this rejection, instead of leading them to walk away and admit defeat, merely intensifies the desire to keep someone else from getting her. And her best friend is Lucinda Abernathy.
Lucinda Abernathy
Lucy Abernathy is the “trusty friend” to the “siren” that is Hermione. She takes pity on poor Gregory Bridgerton becoming the latest in a long—a long, long—line of human butterflies that Hermione makes such sport of collecting. Something about this one seems different, Lucy notices, with a shake of her head adorned with locks of a slightly less blonde color than Hermione’s. And, besides, Hermione is in love with completely unacceptable husband material.
Lord Haselby
As Lucinda attempts to help Gregory win Hermione in order to prevent Hermione from making the biggest mistake of her life, they become much closer and friendlier. The kind of friendship that just needs one or the other to make a move in order to becoming something more. But since Lucinda is already engaged as part of an arranged marriage agreement to Lord Haselby, the move would be moot. And besides, it’s Hermione who end all hope for Gregory by wrecking him with that perfect curve of her neck. So, clearly, Lord Haselby has no cause for concern that the marriage ceremony taking place some time in the future that Gregory Bridgerton is rushing to stop is his own.
