On the Road is one of the seminal works of the Beat Generation, and, in fact, many of the movement's key figures appear in the novel (e.g., William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg). Other important works of the Beatniks include Ginsberg's poem Howl and Burroughs's novel Naked Lunch.
