Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Ruth Bader Ginsburg's younger self is played by Felicity Jones. The film begins while Ginsburg attends Harvard Law School, following her as she tries to advance her career in law. Later, the real-life Ruth Bader Ginsburg plays herself as she walks up the steps of the Supreme Court building.
Martin Ginsburg
Martin is Ruth's husband and is presented as being kind and supportive. While studying at Harvard Law School he is diagnosed with cancer, and Ruth takes over his lectures for him. After graduating he is able to get a job as a lawyer, but his wife struggles due to the sexism of law firms.
Moritz
Moritz is a man who found himself in a predicament when his mother became unwell. He was denied a tax reduction for nursing care because he was a man, and Ginsburg saw this as an opportunity to challenge gender assumptions in the law. As such, his case is used to argue that sexism is unconstitutional.
