Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now? Background

Dr. Seuss' Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now? (originally published in 1972) tells the story of the eponymous dog named Marvin K. Mooney who is implored to "go" by an unnamed person. But Marvin refuses to go despite being constantly badgered. Marvin holds out for as long as he can, but he eventually gives into the pressure and goes.

Marvin K. Mooney received positive reviews when it was released. Common Sense Media, for example, liked the book. Awarding it four stars, they remarked that "Dr. Seuss' haywire illustrations fuel this book." Also, only two years after the book's release, the book became very politically applicable. In fact, Seus and a political humorist took an old copy of Marvin K. Mooney and replaced every instance of the name Marvin K. Mooney and replaced it with Richard M. Nixon, the U.S. President who was disgraced at the time.
