Logan (2017 Film) Background

Logan (2017) is Hugh Jackman's final outing in the role of Wolverine - it is truly his swansong. Taking inspiration from the "Old Man Logan" comic book series, the film follows an aging - and dying - Wolverine, who is trying to earn enough money to buy a houseboat for himself and Professor X, who is having debilitating and deadly episodes. However, once the two come in contact with a young mutant named Laura, their lives are changed forever.

When it was released, Logan was both a critical and financial success. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone, for example, loved the film writing that "Make no mistake, Logan earns its tears. If Jackman and Stewart are serious about this being their mutual X-Men swan song, they could not have crafted a more heartfelt valedictory." At the 2018 Academy Awards, Logan was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Against a budget of approximately $100 million, the film made back $619 million at the box office.
