Only a Writer:
When we are first shown the main lead, Eddie, he makes a remark that links his appearance to that of a drug addict but he says that he’s only a writer. Here lies a double irony because later on when he is trying to explain his idea for the book he is lost for words even though he is a writer. And the other irony is that he later on does become a drug addict.
Overreach:
Eddie starts to form a routine with the pill and cultivates knowledge in various fields. In one instance we see him explaining to a group of people that humans are wired to overreach. This intellect he obtains from the pill is extremely ironic because a few scenes later we see Eddie forming an idea and start to overreach by getting a loan from a gangster and going so far as to increasing his drug dosage.
Fortress:
Eddie, having faced life threatening situations, realizes that he can no longer just stay in apartments and needs somewhere safer to live. He decides on a place that the estate agent describes as a fortress with a hell of a view. Ironically, this fortress that Eddie gets to feel safe is the exact place where his most life threatening event occurs.
The Pill:
The biggest irony of the film is that our protagonist takes this pill which is supposed to make him “limitless” but, ironically, due this pill he finds himself cornered in an apartment and about to end his life by jumping off a building.
