Addict
When Eddie comes back from getting Vern’s clothes and food, he finds Vern dead and freaks out. He panics but while waiting for the police to arrive, he quickly realizes what the murderers were after and becomes engrossed in trying to find the drug for himself. After failing to find it, he sits down calmly on the sofa right next to Vern’s dead body. This imagery shows how much value Eddie has already given the drug and how far he might be willing to go for it.
Limitless
In the beginning few minutes, we are introduced to our protagonist willing to jump off a building. Before he does the camera zooms down towards street level and then zooms through the streets as if each block only takes one step to cross. This imagery of the film hints at the effects of the drug that helps our protagonist speed up his intellectual prowess.
Danger Incoming
After having a taste of the drug, Eddie goes back to Vern to ask for more and finds himself under Vern’s commands. He starts thinking up how he will gladly be an errand boy in exchange for the drug. But when he returns he finds Vern dead. This imagery indicates to Eddie and to the audience that the drug does not come without complications.
Plan
When Lindy escapes her pursuer and delivers the pills to Eddie, she is shown to feel sad and talks about leaving Eddie. However, Eddie tries to console her by saying that he has a plan and is going to get off the drug (NZT). But soon after we see him instead adapting to the drug again and trying his best to keep it a part of his life. This imagery portrays the protagonist as a clear addict and entirely dependent on the pill to live.
