Students will be able to articulate arguments against slavery, do research into slavery in the United States, and make connections to the novel.

Structure:

In this activity, students will research arguments for and against slavery and, using Kindred as evidence, produce an abolitionist pamphlet.

Begin the activity by explaining to students that abolitionists were people who were opposed to slavery. Many of them fought slavery by creating anti-slavery pamphlets. For more information about abolitionists, you might refer to...
