    Objective:

    Compare and contrast the film version of the play with the stage version

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.7

    Structure:

    Watch the 1930 film adaptation of Juno and the Paycock, called The Shame of Mary Boyle at the time of its release, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

    After viewing the film, students should be paired to discuss the following questions:

    • Where does the movie version differ from the play? Are those differences meaningful or trivial?
    • Why would Alfred Hitchcock make changes to the play?
    • Are those changes for the better or worse, in your opinion? Why?
