Structure:

To begin this activity, show a short silent film like Charlie Chaplin’s The Dentist (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZrsuEWw9m8). Remind students that the era in which In the Skin of a Lion is set is also the era of the silent film. Had Patrick lived in a less rural area, he likely would have watched Charlie Chaplin. Lead students through a brief discussion using some or all of the following questions:
