How to Sell a Haunted House Background

Grady Hendrix's How to Sell a Haunted House was published in January of 2023. It is the follow-up to Hendrix's New York Times bestseller The Final Girl Support Group, which was published in 2021. How to Sell a Haunted House tells the story of a young mom named Louise, who just learned that her parents have died.

She dreads having to go to her parent's home, deal with their deaths, and take care of the items which remain inside of her parent's home. Above all, though, she doesn't want to have to deal with her family—especially her brother Mark. In order to successfully get their parent's home ready for sale, though, Louise will need her brother's help. But the house doesn't want to be sold and fights back against Louise and her brother.

Many reviewers loved How to Sell a Haunted House when it was published in 2023. Kirkus Reviews loved the book and called Hendrix's novel a "most bitchin’ horror story by a gifted practitioner of these dark arts." Writing for NPR, Gabino Iglesias also loved the novel. In his review of the novel, he said that it is "campy and tense, dark but also deep."
