Still disturbed by the murder trial, Herzog decides he needs to go to Chicago and find June. He takes a plane to Chicago and plans to go to Madeline. But first, he visits his father’s house, where his stepmother Taube lives. She welcomes Herzog in and he halfheartedly entertains her, but really wants to find his father’s desk so he can take a pistol and some Czarist rubles.
After getting what he wants, Herzog drives to Madeline’s house. Through the bathroom window, Herzog watches Gersbach lovingly bathe June. Struck by Gersbach’s kindness, Herzog realizes that he does not want to kill him and Madeline. Herzog goes to...
