What social rituals do we see on display in the first meeting Kapila and Padmini? Why does Kapila suddenly seem to be unaware or forgetful of these rituals?

One of the more obvious social rituals that students may point out is: don't show up in front of people's homes and stare! Another, somewhat less familiar ritual may be Kapila's offer to touch Padmini's feet. (While some students may infer from context that this is a gesture of respect, this may need some explaining on the part of the teacher.) What will be apparent to all students, however, is that Kapila has completely forgotten himself—and even the most basic social customs—in light of the beauty of Padmini.
