What causes Manik to allow Shyam to investigate Guru for corruption?

After Contractor's father gives Guru a blank check in order to buy him out Guru goes after Contractor to make his name a curse in the newspapers. But, this was done without Manik's go-ahead and it upsets him because he is dedicated to printing the truth and what they printed was not, it was a slander campaign to aide Guru. For this, Manik allows Shyam to begin investigating Guru which leads to him being taken before a government panel that could shut his corporation down.

What is the significance of Guru placing the golf ball in the hole with Contractor?

Contractor has agreed to sign off on Guru's membership to become a cloth trader if he can sink a put by putting the golf ball in the hole. Guru simply picks up the ball and puts it in the hole, and Contractor says that he will give it to him. The significance of Guru doing this is that his mind works far differently than the average man who would have attempted to put the ball in and missed.

Why does Guru marry Sujata?

Guru is home with his friend Jignesh. Guru wants Jignesh's father to loan him money to start his business, but his dad no longer lends money; he is only saving for his daughters wedding. Thus, Guru is willing to marry his daughter for the dowry to start his business even without seeing Sujata.
