"Feminist Manifesto" and Other Texts Metaphors and Similes

Something splendid is about to happen (metaphor)

The narrator foresees a future with more opportunities for women to realize themselves and find their inner selves. Mina Loy states that women “are on the eve of a devastating psychological upheaval”, which means that changes are to happen. And these changes are the outcome of the change which has to happen in minds of people, and in women’s minds in the first place.

Instrument of subjection (metaphor)

The narrator metaphorically calls a woman’s purity – virginity – “an instrument of her subjection”. But such an attitude towards the virtues of a woman subjects her to success “by chance”. It is then luck that helps a woman to use her “instrument of subjection,” to become a well-respected woman as a wife of a well-respected man - and this is one of the common prejudices which reign in today’s world.

Soundness (metaphor)

In Mina Loy’s opinion, “Woman for her happiness must retain her deceptive fragility of appearance, combined with indomitable will, irreducible courage, & abundant health” – all these things are necessary for the outcome to be sound and stable.
