Relationship to Other Books

Equus is an explicitly referential play which questions meaning and ritual through the lenses of ancient Greek imagery, Christian doctrine, and modern psychology. As such, it would be worthwhile to include context from all three of those traditions into your classroom discussion.

Ancient Greek readings: Equus references Agamemnon and the Trojan War, so a classroom discussion could be enhanced with an exploration of The Iliad and of Euripides’ play Iphigenia at Aulis.
