    Objective:

    Discuss interpretations of the fantasy mind game that Ender plays at Battle School.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.4, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1

    Structure:

    As a class, discuss the symbolism (or lack thereof) of the mind game. What might some of the foes and settings represent? (For example: the Giant, the snake, the wolf children, Fairyland) Do they represent something specific to Ender, or something recognizable in the text overall? Encourage students to look for visual and thematic parallels between the imagery of the mind game and aspects of Ender's life.
