Why do Brutus and Sicinius seek to undermine Coriolanus? Do you agree with Menenius's assessment of their motivations?
Brutus and Sicinius are presented in the play as ambitious individuals who hold a grudge against Coriolanus. They are not directly threatened by Coriolanus, and they see an opportunity as well to use the plebeians' dislike of him to increase their own clout. In this respect, they are not necessarily any worse than other Roman politicians, but most students will probably agree that Menenius's characterization of them isn't too far off the mark.
