Consider the portrayal of the plebeians in this section of the play. How does Shakespeare intend for us to feel about these characters?
Shakespeare's portrayal of the plebeians is fairly nuanced. His depiction of their rabble-rousing could be interpreted as negative, and he clearly shows sympathy to Menenius's view that the plebeians have their place and the patricians have theirs. However, he does not shy away from showing the enormous discontent and dissatisfaction of the plebeians. Furthermore, Shakespeare does not hide the fact that Coriolanus's naked hostility towards the plebeians causes more problems than it solves.
