OLYMPIANS

The ruling Greek gods.

TITANS

The original ruling gods who fought with and lost to the Olympians.

NYMPHS

Minor goddesses associated with the natural world.

NAIADS

Nymphs associated with freshwater (brooks, streams, fountains).

NEREIDS

Nymphs associated with the sea.

OREADS

Nymphs who live in the mountains.

DRYADS

Tree or wood-dwelling nymphs.

THE FATES

Three weaving goddesses responsible for assigning destinies to mortals at birth.

THE FURIES

Goddesses of vengeance, the Furies live in the underworld, visiting earth to punish the wicked.

THE SIRENS

Half-woman, half-bird, the Sirens are feared for their seductive powers. Luring sailors with their beautiful singing voices, they lead them to wreck their ships and drown.

DEMI-GODS

Demi-gods are the offspring of a god and a mortal. Famous examples include Achilles, Perseus and Heracles.

THE UNDERWORLD

The Greeks believed that, after death, mortal souls travelled to the underworld.

TROJAN WAR

The Trojan War is one of the key events in Greek mythology and has inspired several works of classical literature, including Homer’s the Iliad. The Greeks eventually defeated the Trojans when they entered Troy inside a wooden horse.
