Chapter 1

Chronicle of a Death Foretold begins with the narrator stating that the events leading to the murder of Santiago Nasar were known in advance as if they were destined to happen. The narrator, who is an unnamed friend of Santiago, travels back in time to reconstruct the events leading up to the murder twenty-seven years after the fact.
