What are some reasons you think Bud might be so distrustful of Lefty Lewis at first?

At this point in the story, we've seen Bud have a lot of negative experiences with adults. For instance, Mr. and Mrs. Amos locked him in the shed, and when he escaped, he got yelled at by a a man who said he was too late to get in line for a meal at the mission. Generally, Bud needs to rely on himself and nobody else to survive. He typically does things on his own without much help. When Mr. Lewis approaches him, even though Bud has no reason not to believe he is a good person just trying to help him, his previous experiences may have built a wall that make it difficult for him to trust...
