Why does Finn blame himself for what happened to Roza?

Before Roza is kidnapped, she had been with Finn who had let her go. Because when Roza is kidnapped she is with Finn, he holds himself accountable for the kidnapping that happens in front of his eyes. Additionally, when he goes to report the kidnapping, he is unable to provide a vivid description of the kidnappers to the police so that he is of no help to them at all. Later, when he has an accident and is admitted to the hospital, one of the kidnappers visits him at the hospital but he is again unable to remember his facial appearance. As a result of these events, Finn blames himself.

What can be said of Finn’s character as portrayed in Laura Ruby’s The Bone Gap?

When Finn finds Roza injured in their barn he helps her until she recovers. Finn and his brother Sean go on to give her a room in their home. In this way, Finn can be argued as a caring person. The same character is also brought out in Finn when he does all his best to ensure the safe return of Roza after the kidnapping. Additionally, when Roza gets kidnapped, Finn is engulfed in emotions of guilt as he feels responsible, in part, for the kidnap that occurs. In this way, he can also be argued to be quite an emotional a person.

Explore the concept of love as explored in Laura Ruby’s The Bone Gap.

In this novel, the love for humanity is brought out through Sean and Finn’s decision to help Roza out despite her being a total stranger to them when she is first found injured in the barn. On the other hand, romantic love is also explored in this work. For instance, Finn falls for Petey despite her not being beautiful, at least not as beautiful as Roza. In particular, Finn’s love for Petey is brought out when he feels bad after she calls him face blind and that she was only attracted to her because people with her condition liked strange-looking faces. On the other hand, Sean also falls for Roza. In this way, love as a theme is also quite explored in The Bone Gap.
