Bone Gap Character List

Finn O’Sullivan

Finn O’Sullivan is the protagonist of the story. According to the people of Bone Gap, Finn is a strange lad. He never looks people in the eyes, not to mention that he is always deep in his own thoughts. They call him Spaceman, Moonface and many other names, but they do it without malice, for he is their strange boy and they have known him for ages. However, Finn doesn’t have any serious mental disorder, he suffers from prosopagnosia, a cognitive disorder of face perception. Finn is a very sensitive teenager, who loves his brother, his cat and Petey, who is a girl of his dreams. Roza’s kidnapping makes him feel guilty, for he blames himself for not helping her, for believing that she wanted to leave.

Sean O’Sullivan

Sean O’Sullivan is an elder brother of Finn. He is not as attractive as Finn, but still looks like a superhero from the movies. Sean’s life has never been easy. His father’s death and his mother’s new marriage and then moving to a different state make him mature faster, give up on his dreams and teach him not to trust people. His love for Roza is strong, but he doesn’t let his feelings prevail over his mind. Sean works as an emergency medical technician.

Roza Solkolkowski

Roza Solkolkowski is a young woman from Poland and one of the main characters of the story. She comes to the USA to study botany. Unlike many other young people who come with her to the States, she doesn’t look for a chance to stay in the country, for she misses Poland and her babcia, a grandmother. Her beauty often tricks men into believing that she is just a pretty face and nothing more. All Roza’s ex-boyfriends tried to make her yield to their wishes, but she never did. A man, her teacher, kidnaps Roza on her last day in the USA. When she manages to escape for the first time, she hides in O’Sullivans’ barn. That is how she meets Sean and Finn. Later on, she falls in love with Sean, for he is nothing like her ex-boyfriends, he has never tried to take advantage of her.

The Scare Crow

The Scare Crow is the antagonist of the story. He is a man, who can live in this world and parallel world simultaneously.

Didi

Didi is Sean and Finn’s mother. She has never been faithful to her boys’ father, but the latter used to forgive her everything. After her first husband’s death, Didi found a new husband and moved with him to a different state. Didi is not really interested in her sons, for they are not little anymore and Sean is responsible enough to take care of himself and his younger brother.

The Rude boys

The Rude boys (Derek, Erik, Frank, Jake and Spike) are local bullies, who live in Finn’s neighborhood. Being children of the farmers, they get used to hard physical work, which makes them unbelievably strong. They often beat Finn up. Later on, the Rude boys prove to be not that bad. When Derek comes out, his family accepts him. The locals joke that his boyfriend looks a lot like Finn and even Finn recollects that Derek has never beaten him too hard.

Miguel Cordero

Miguel Cordero is the best friend of Finn. He believes that there is a ghost in his house. Miguel’s biggest problem is his long arms, which make him be unsure of himself. He is also a head over heels in love with Amber Hass.

Calamity Jake

Calamity Jake is Finn’s cat.

Charlie Valentine

Charlie Valentine is a neighbor of Sean and Finn. The man is obsessed with his chickens and suffers from color blindness.

Jonas Apple

Jonas Apple is the part-time police officer.

Amber Hass

Amber Hass is one of the most beautiful girls in Bone Gap. In the beginning of the novel, it is mentioned that she is interested in Finn, but later she starts dating Miguel and they both seem to be happy. Amber is not only beautiful! She is also kind and protective, for she doesn’t let other girls make fun of her friend, Petey (Priscilla Willis).

Priscilla Willis

Priscilla Willis is a girl Finn is in love with. According to the people of Bone Gap, Petey has a body to die for and an incredibly strange, even ugly face. Petey says that she looks like an angry bee. This strong belief in her own ugliness doesn’t let her believe that Finn, a fairly attractive boy, is genuinely in love with her.

Mel Willis

Mel Willis is Petey’s mother.

Mrs. Lonogan

Mrs. Lonogan is the principal of Bone Gap Elementary.

Rus

Rus is the dog, which Roza manages to tame.

Darla

Darla is a waitress in the local café.
