Furo waking up white
Furo is a black man and is having a hard time in his life. However, this all changes the morning he wakes up as a white man. This is definitely the most important image in the book, as everything that happens in the book is a consequence of that morning. He is a white man, and all his problems are getting solved.
Furo changing his name to Frank Whyte
Furo changing his name to Frank Whyte is an important image, as it shows that Furo is embracing ad welcoming his new persona. Not only is he becoming a white man in the sense of the color of his skin, but he is also changing his name, trying to fit into his new look. In addition, he went and bought a new set of clothes to go with it.
Furo leaving the city
Furo planning to leave the city is also a very important image, as he has taken a choice about who he wants to be. He knows that some of the traces of who he once was is left in the city he lives in, and moving will therefore be a way of totally removing who he once was. At the same time, he will be leaving everyone that knew him while he was a black man, so he can start fresh once and for all.
