When my iPhone shattered against the pavement, I watched in horror as my $650 investment instantly became a $650 paperweight. Soon after, I stood dumbfounded again, when my local Apple Store provided me with a $169 repair quote. There had to be a way to fix a phone without breaking the bank.

Fast-forward three months: It’s 2:00 AM and I’m hunched over a desk with only a table lamp on. Phillips and Pentalobe screws are strewn across the table itself, along with glass displays, wires, and buttons. My first venture into entrepreneurship has begun.

My business of fixing and reselling smartphones lies at the intersection of economics and technology. By beginning with technical knowledge of circuitry and then carefully calculating my margins, I’ve found success. Growing this operation has hooked me on the rush of making a new sale or finding a better solution. I’m ready for bigger challenges, and a dual degree in engineering and business is the next step.
