The political documentary category on Netflix is one of my favorite sections. I love learning about the components of our governmental system, from logrolling to voting. As a social studies enthusiast, I see the world as constantly changing, as always dependent upon the influence of its citizens. After all, I may have been the only student who pre-registered to vote when the opportunity was offered at my school. I am even more excited for the day I am able to run for a seat in the United States Senate. It is the pristine, white dome on East Capitol Street on which my eyes are set.
This past summer, I was selected to serve as a page for both Josh Stein in the North Carolina Senate and Pat McCrory in the Governor’s office. I was mesmerized by the political activity that occurred in each of these two different branches of NC government, from the debates that shook the Senate floor to the daily meetings at the Governor’s mansion to hammer out a state budget. Such exposure to the routines of state government has inspired me to pursue experience in our government on a national level.
