This book was E. M. Forster's third novel. His first two, Where Angels Fear to Tread and The Longest Journey. Both deal with themes that are found in A Room with a View and display Forster's characteristic biting wit and deep insight.

A Passage to India and Howards End are perhaps Forster's most famous novels, and further deal with the themes of travel, social conventions, and passion.

Maurice was written when he was very young but published posthumously because it was written when homosexuality was still a crime in England. This novel perhaps most explicitly deals with the themes of love winning - and losing - against the expectations of society.
