    Structure:

    Forster publishes a novel within his novel. Miss Lavish's fictional narrative is a crucial plot point in the book, providing both comedic relief and heart-racing drama. Miss Lavish rewrote the scenes of Lucy and George's relationship, including the murder in the piazza and their first kiss and made their lives into a book. When Cecil reads a scene from the book out loud, he provokes the second kiss between Lucy and George.
