A Lady's Guide to Selling Out Background

A Lady's Guide to Selling Out follows a woman named Casey Pendergast who has landed a job at one of the top advertisement agencies in the world. But Casey, who was considered to be a book-loving English major by her friends and family, is considered to be a sell-out and pariah because of her career choice. As Casey gets more experience in her work, she quickly discovers that many famous authors sell out their work to make some quick cash. But Casey doesn't accept this and decides to make a change in her life, as well as in the life of an author that she falls in love with. But is it too late to escape her situation?

On its publication date, A Lady's Guide to Selling Out received overwhelmingly positive reviews. In their review for their novel, for instance, Publisher's Weekly wrote that the novel is: “Bitingly funny ... [Sally] Franson’s snappy debut nimbly skewers the high-flying world of advertising and romance in the age of social media ... Comparisons will be made to The Devil Wears Prada, but Franson’s irresistibly flawed heroine holds her own as she strives to find honesty, meaning, and even love in a demanding world, resulting in an addictive, escapist novel."

An adaption for the novel is currently in development at Netflix. Although no release date or actors have been announced, a Hollywood star has been announced as director: superstar Meg Ryan of When Harry Met Sally fame.
