Feyre Archeron
Feyre is the novel's protagonist, a 19-year-old huntswoman tasked with caring for her family. When Feyre's mother died, she promised to care for her father and the two younger sisters. The author depicts Feyre as caring, loving, passionate and hardworking. Feyre spends most of her time in the forest hunting to ensure her family does not sleep hungry.
While hunting, Feyre kills a wolf, which she later realizes is a fearie, a dangerous creature in the fearie kingdom. Feyre hates faeries because she believes they are deadly and can harm humans at will. The fearie that Feyre kills is Tamlin, a High Lord in the Night Court. Tamlin resurrects and takes Feyre to live with her, and she realizes that faeries are friendly and can form romantic relationships with humans.
Tamlin
Tamlin is welcoming, thoughtful and gentle, unlike other faeries. When Tamlin takes Feyre to the Spring Court, he treats her with caution and love. Tamlin grew up in an oppressive family that treated him as a slave. Consequently, Tamlin wants to be different and demonstrates his actions by taking good care of Feyre.
Amarantha
Amarantha is hateful, evil and jealous. Amarantha is the High Queen of Prythian, a leader who hates humans with passion. Amarantha wants to control all kingdoms on land, an attribute that makes her ruthless and disparaging.
Lucien
Lucien is trustworthy, gracious and a courteous character. After relocating from the Fall Court, Lucien becomes the second-in-command in the Spring Court, working under Tamlin. Lucien and Tamlin are close friends. Lucien is open-minded and does not shy about telling Tamlin the truth whenever he goes wrong. Consequently, Lucien is not afraid of speaking truth to authority.
Rhysand
Rhysand is the High Lord of the Night Court. Rhysand is intelligent and loving. Despite working under Amarantha, a brutal High Queen, he is lovely and does not hate humans. Rhysand is passionate about protecting the people of the Prythian kingdom.
Alis
Alis is a devoted woman who does her roles with determination. Alis is Tamlin's servant, and her role is to care for Feyre in the Spring Court. Alis plays a vital role in helping Feyre save Tamlin from his enemies, and they jointly break the fearie curse.
