A Court of Thorns and Roses Background

A Court of Thorns and Roses (2015) is the first novel in Sarah J. Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses series. It introduces the series' magical world and the novel's main character, Feyre, a nineteen-year-old huntress. One day, Feyre decides to kill a wolf in the woods. At first, she feels no consequences; however, eventually, an evil creature appears that threatens her safety and the safety of those around her. That beast, a faerie named Tamlin, is humanized when the two talk more with each other. Ultimately, the two grow to trust each other implicitly. Tamlin poses a question to Feyre: will she help Tamlin stop the ancient, wicked shadow that threatens Tamlin and all faeries.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is set to be adapted into a television series of the same name on Hulu. That fact reflects the novel's overwhelming popularity. In fact, A Court of Thorns and Roses quickly became a New York Times bestseller and received exceptionally positive reviews. The Guardian called the novel "intensely gripping" in their review of it. Kirkus Reviews called it "sexy and romantic."
