Zero Hour! (Film) Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

All Aboard

Ted purchases a ticket aboard the aircraft that his wife and son are on. This is a symbol that he will do anything to have a shot at saving his marriage.

Fish or Lamb

The stewardess gives the option of fish or lamb for dinner to the captains of the airliner. This is a symbol of choosing their fate, as it foreshadows the insidious danger lying in the form of contaminated fish that will become the antagonist of the film.

Sweaty

We see Joey wiping his forehead of sweat and then the co-pilot doing the same. This is a symbol that they are in the midst of food-poisoning coming on, and that anyone who ate the halibut is in danger.

Co-Pilot

Ted is asked to pilot the airliner, and then Ellen is asked to come into the cockpit in order to work the radio with her husband and be there for him to support him in flying. This is a symbol for their marriage, that although things are difficult they must be there for one another if they are going to make it through.

Oriented

Stryker is attempting to orient himself with the instrument panel on the commercial airliner. We see a panning shot of the multitude of instruments in front of him, and this is a symbol of how overwhelming he is feeling at the fact that he must pilot this plane without knowing how to fly it.
