The Devil had developed a unique plan to introduce his drink and wanted to trick Jesus to bless it. Jesus tested the rum presented by the Devil and blessed without his entire heart. The Devil achieved his goal by convincing Jesus that the initial drink presented to him was bad.

Satan’s trickery did not start yesterday. According to the mythical story in the Highland Maya Town, Satan tricked Jesus and made him drunk to bless his adulterated drink. When Jesus got drunk, the Devil’s rum was approved as the best drink for the people of Maya Town. Unfortunately, in the later years, the rum made men unproductive and useless members of society, which was the Devil's objective.

The narrator says the quote to remind readers that Jesus had good intentions for the people before the Devil came up with an evil plan to confuse him. The chichi, commonly referred to as ‘rum’ by the locals, was meant to empower people, bring harmony and enable them to serve God. However, it is paradoxical that the Devil managed to introduce his rum that confused the entire society.
